...Radim Čáp (Stork)

Mastermind is my music job and the peak of a life´s work. I play the keyboard, compose music and create the whole sound pictures, too. The project is dated by autumn 2001. I draw inspiration from my inside needs. I want express my inner feelings by music. I love better than anything else this alchemistic matter where an idea rises and is reflected by a concept called a piece of music. There is something fascinating, virginal and on the top of that a certain unspecified challenge.
Technics represents a giant revolution. I´am able to vent my perceptions thanks to it. I love it. It infills me and helps me to live in this world. It will be a satisfaction for me if you find in the project Mastermind at least a piece of something which interests you.
So much the more my work will get filling and sense.

...Černá krajina period

A neo-romantic groupage Černá krajina came to existence in 1990.
A founder of a project was Ondřej Pokorný (keyboard). Martin Hašek (vocal) joined him later. Finally Radim Čáp (keyboard and vocal) was invited to the project. Firstly he worked as a graphic designer.

Černá krajina prepared a few demo songs after several auditions in Brno cellars. At first Martin Pavlík Atreid (Beamship, H.E.E.L., Frontier Guards) took part as a keyboard player in the project. In spring 1992 a demo 2/3 smutku came into existence. Several concerts were performed in Brno. I´d like to remind you a project Neue Sprache, later Bullerbyne and Hrabě X.

Ondřej Pokorný left the group in 1992 and Černá krajina came to an end.

...Transcedent period

Martin Hašek and Radim Čáp decided to continue in a music production. They gave to rise to a syth-pop formation Transcendent in November 1992.
Petr Tudy Holubář (Onset, Ebola Joy, Insania) cooperated as a sound engineer in a demo version. Transcedent started to perform in Brno clubs, started to gather first successes and filled up an empty place in Electro-pop scene.

One year later a demo Change arose. Ondřej Pokorný returned as s sound adviser of a final mixing. In autumn 1994 Transcendent prepared 6x Dance where a few older songs were remixed. Several shows came after and work on other songs continued. A demo shot Project Again Born arose in 1997. Martin Kubát (a keyboard player) joined the group. Martin Kubát and Radim Čáp left Transcedent in 1998.

Martin Hašek stayed in Transcendent as the last member. New songs haven´t been produced yet.

...Accessvirus period

After living of Transcendent in 2000 was Radim Čáp asked by Zdeněk Doležal to make up together Tomáš Galle (H.E.E.L., Pictures4Masses, Frontier Guards) a formation in an Ambient Electronics project called Accessvirus.

After two demos CD Screams Of Proteus, Follow My Fantasy and several decadent shows finished Accessvirus its activities. Zdeněk and Radim prepared a new music project which hasn´t been finished yet.

...Mastermind and Depressive Disorder period

Mastermind is dated to the thirst half of 2002.In these days first music material and conception were prepared. In the same year was Radim asked by a leader and founder EBM formation Depressive Disorder Patrik Lev to help him with the first demo - CD Near To Death and ...Another Step To Death. Thanks to it a long term cooperation arosed.

In February 2003 Mastermind prepared a limited edition for his hard core fans called The End Of The Day.

In March 2003 came out a single called The End Of The Day under a trade mark Own Production. Depressive Disorder and Broom carweLL participated in this project by his remixes and Accessvirus prepared a cover version of Follow my fantasy. The single The End Of The Day can be considered as a beginning of Mastermind. The song The End Of The Day was accepted very good because this music element was missing in Czech electronic scene.

CD Power under the trade mark Own Production arose in April 2003. Wider spectrum of people started to be interested in this type of an electronic alternative scene. Sotar Photo Page (Jiří Dvořák a Michal Král Kulda) took part in this project and prepared an interesting spectrum of photos and a booklet. Sotar Photo Page prepared all coats for Mastermind.

Another single for Power was the great hit Alone (October 2003 - Own Production). Depressive Disorder, Propulsion, E-Work and Beamship prepared a few remixes for it again. Mastermind remaked a song Jen pro sebe žít from a group Trascendent. Alone meant a clear position in Czech electro-scene and everyone accepted it. Magazine Bassline prized Alone as the single of the month.

The project Mastermind - Radim Čáp and Patrik Lev (who was invited for a live production) showed several times. At the same time both boys started to work in Depressive Disorder and for that reason Radim stopped working on the project Mastermind and helped with Depressive Disorder. In the meantime Mastermind and Depressive Disorder prepared a song It´s Called A Heart for Czech Tribute Depeche Mode in an electronic compilation Best Of LETEM.

An independent publisher Monopolrecords (the boss Michal Lepšík) started to be interested in Mastermind and offered Radim a cooperation at the beginning of 2005. The first thing was a re-edition of the album Ultima Ratio (October 2005) in a digipack. After a long term rest period a song Time Is Out was produced for a compilation called 5th Anniversary Compilation.

Depressive Disorder prepared its new album with a name Ultima Ratio (October 2005) under Monopolrecods, too. There is a big decision for Radim which group to devote his time in future. He stopped activity in Mastermind and continued his work for Depressive Disorder. The group started to show in Czech and abroad and build a good possition in Czech and outside of the Czech scene.
As well as a job at another album called In Depth (July 2007) was succesful and a favourable atmosphere was made around this group. The last album in which Radim participated was named The Chronicle Of Fear (June 2009). Work on this CD was really hectic and both protagonists went through a heavy personal exam. Depressive Disorder prepared three albums Ultima Ratio, In Depth and The Chronicle Of Fear and a lot of remixes and concert shows under a label of Monopolrecords.

In March 2010 Radim decided to leave Depressive Disorder. Now he devotes his time to Mastermind again and revives his activities.
At the present time a new album is going to be released in autumn of 2010.

...period of return and Smudges

The realization of the album became more time consuming than it seemed at first glance. I like to visit several concerts of the former group Depressive Disorder,
where at that time his vagabond on the podium was hitting Vena> (from No Name Desire) behind the keys and Ezechiel, who took the guitar.
Radim and Patrik agreed to collaborate on recording the new Insane for Depressive Disorder, where Radim was invited as a producer.
> Eventually, a return to Depressive Disorder occurred in the Melodka club in Brno on February 5, 2011 at the Black Cat Party> event, with the Blind song.

Mastermind was in some kind of levitation at the time, and he was still a time-lapse project waiting for his expansion.
Depressive Disorder also made the Insane For You concert DVD, and then set off to prepare the Sep7em terrestrial album, which they released at Monopolrecords in 2014, and which was extremely acclaimed by both critics and fans. After several concerts in four, they decided not to continue in live production, to devote themselves to the production of the studio and also returned to the original set.

In the spring of 2017, Monopolrecords announced unexpectedly the termination of his activity and hence the editorial plan, including the Mastermind. He now found himself without a publisher, and with the material he was already preparing for release.

During 2017, Radim completed work on ten songs in StorkStudio, which was selected from about twenty demos and arranged for texting.
The selection was made from the drawings of "drawers" to the actual creation. Everything got a new robe and in the autumn of that year, Mastermind finished recording and finalizing the Smudges album.
Patrik Lev and Martin Hasek participated in it. Remixes were then processed by Frontier Guards, broom CarweLL and Stork. In March 2018, the Smudges album is released in digital form.
